New High School in the South-End Of Guelph
Exciting news! Guelph is getting a new 900 student high school in the south-end. It is going to be located on an 18-acre plot of land on the northwest corner of Arkell Road and Victoria Road.
It will initially hold 900 students. They plan to do future expansions allowing up to 1200 students. This will take a lot of pressure off the other high schools in Guelph that are currently overcrowded. The board has been trying to get the province to allow them to build a school for years.
It will take anywhere from three to five years. “It takes a year and a half just to get through the design portion of it and a year and a half, or just slightly less, to construct it,” Scinocca said, adding that there are also strict approval processes through the province that take time.”
They currently have 600 students within walking distance of the school. They haven’t come up with the actual boundaries yet. They also do not have a name for the school either.
It will be the first high school built by the public board since Centennial CVI, which was 50 years ago!
