Cheap Renovation Tips To Make A Dream Kitchen!

Kitchen renovations can be expensive and time consuming. Here are a couple of cheap kitchen renovations and inexpensive ways to give a kitchen a face lift without breaking the bank.

Replace the Hardware

Some very easy, quick, and cheap kitchen renovations is to simply replace the cabinet door handles. It can instantly give a kitchen a more modern look.

Two great place to buy door handles are Home Depot & W & W Liquidators (118 Victoria St S, Kitchener).

Home Depot will sometimes sell them in bulk bags at a good price. W & W is a great place with tons of selection at great prices.  They will also let you sign out samples.

Paint the Cupboards

Painting kitchen cupboards and replacing the handles will give your kitchen a great look providing you do a good job painting (this is extremely important). Painting kitchen cupboards is inexpensive but time consuming renovation.

It is easiest if you take the cupboard doors off before you paint.  You may also want to replace the hinges if they are old. The best paints to use are Benjamin Moore Advance Waterborne Alkyd, Sherwin Williams Pro Classic Water Based Acrylic-Alkyd Enamel, or Behr Allkyd Semi-Gloss.

If painting your cupboards, white is always a safe bet.  Medium grey is also very popular right now.  Also, mixing colours is a current trend.  For example, paint the cupboards white and the island dark grey or black. Or, paint the upper cupboards white and the lower cupboards dark grey.  If you have solid oak cupboards but want a darker brown or grey stain, then consider painting them with a gel paint.

A great product is Susan Kay Gel paint.

It is only available as far as I know in Barrie Ontario.  I love this product because you can just paint right over top of the old varathane without stripping or sanding.

Renovation Kitchen

Painting a kitchen or bathroom counter top can take years off the age of a kitchen. It is extremely important that you properly tape, eliminate drips, and use the right paint. Tanya our GoWylde stager changes the colour of her kitchen counter top every couple of years just for something new.

No matter what the renovation you do, you have to do a good job. If you don’t think you are a perfectionist when it comes to doing renovations, then you are better to either leave it as is or pay someone to do it that will do a good job.
