How to Make Showings Easier for You?

Constantly having to keep your home clean and having to leave every time there is a showing can be a huge pain. Here are some tips on how to make showings easier for you:

  1. Before listing your home, get rid of or store any items you won’t NEED during the next couple weeks/months. Having less clutter in your home makes it easier to keep clean and your home will make a stronger impression.
  2. Your best bet may be to take a vacation for the first few days. When you first list your home there may be a frenzy of people wanting to see it. After that the activity should calm down, and your house may even be sold (fingers crossed)! With you out of the house it will allow the realtors to pack as many showings as possible into the first couple days. Typically the more showings you have, the faster your home will sell.
  3. We know how hard it is to keep the kitchen spotless all the time. If you can, treat yourself to a few meals out, or stick to simple meals like sandwiches. Eating out can get costly so consider buying paper plates for quick and easy clean up. Try to avoid making foods that give off a strong odour.
  4. It is not realistic to have your counters clutter free all the time. You need certain items to live comfortably. Instead of trying to find somewhere to hide everything, just pick up a couple of boxes or baskets. When you are running out of the house before a showing, fill up the baskets with your clutter and take them out to the car with you or stick them in the garage. If you have a container of Lysol disinfecting wipes under the counters in kitchen and bathroom, they can make for a quick one-step wipe down for the counters.
  5. If you have a dog it may be easier to have a friend/family member take care of your pup for a bit. Or send them to doggy day care while you are at work and not able to take them out of the house for showings. This can save you the stress of running home throughout the day to remove the dog for showings. It also saves your dog the stress of having strangers coming into their home.
  6. If you have young children set showing time restrictions at night. For Example “No showings after 7pm”
  7. Last resort, take a drive. Grab the kids, your boxes of clutter, the dog and hop in the car. Typically, the showings will be fairly quick so you won’t be waiting long. Just make sure you don’t wait in the car outside your home or on the street. This gives buyers the uncomfortable feeling they are being watched.
